Description
Individual Recovery Art Lessons — Private 2-Hour Creative Recovery Sessions
Our Individual Recovery Art Lessons offer a unique, compassionate approach that combines structured oil painting technique with supportive, recovery-focused guidance. Specially crafted for individuals working through addiction recovery, managing mental illness, or carrying the heavy weight of trauma and profound grief, these private Individual Recovery Art Lessons provide a safe, non-judgmental space to learn classical fine art skills while utilizing the creative process for deep emotional expression and inner calm.
Facilitated by a recovered addict and professional fine artist with deep lived experience of the 12 Steps, these sessions bridge the gap between technical artistry and personal healing. This is not clinical art therapy—it is a practical, recovery-focused creative practice shaped by real experience of what genuinely helps during addiction recovery, managing mental illness, and rebuilding emotional stability. Many clients arrive having never held a paintbrush before, while experienced artists find fresh emotional depth in their work.
What You Will Gain From Private Recovery Art Sessions
Through the meditative, slow-drying nature of oil painting, Individual Recovery Art Lessons allow you to gently process difficult emotions, grief, trauma, and mental distress at your own comfortable pace. Each session is structured around your individual needs on the day, offering tangible creative and emotional benefits:
Structured Oil Painting Technique: Master colour mixing, glaze layering, value structure, and brushwork fundamentals using professional materials like Cobalt Blue Hue and Permanent Rose.
Support for Addiction Recovery & Mental Illness: Build constructive coping mechanisms, regulate your nervous system, and find relief from symptoms of anxiety, depression, or burnout.
A Safe Space for Processing Trauma & Grief: Sit quietly with difficult emotions in a private, compassionate studio setting where your pace, history, and emotional boundaries are fully respected.
Self-Awareness and Inner Calm: Cultivate mindfulness, emotional grounding, and newfound creative confidence that extends well beyond the canvas.
What to Expect at Our Hurlingham Manor Studio
Sessions take place at our private, peaceful home studio in Hurlingham Manor, Sandton (Johannesburg). There is no rigid curriculum or pressure to perform—the pace is entirely dictated by you. Some sessions focus heavily on technical paint application and colour theory, while others become a quiet, reflective space to work through trauma, mental health struggles, or grief, with oil painting serving as the comfortable entry point.
Art materials are not included in the lesson fee. You are welcome to bring your existing painting supplies or purchase everything you need in advance directly from our online oil paint shop. If you prefer a collaborative, group environment, we also facilitate Group Recovery Art Sessions at rehabilitation facilities across Johannesburg.
